Matthew David McConaughey was born in Uvalde, Texas, to Mary Kathleen “Kate” (née McCabe), a schoolteacher, and James Donald McConaughey, a gas station owner who ran an oil pipe supply business and once played football for the Green Bay Packers. He has two older brothers, Michael and Pat, and two older sisters, Sandra and Roanne. His mother and late father married each other three times. He has Irish, Scottish, and English ancestry.
