    Early Life and Education

    Meghan Markle was born on August 4, 1981, in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of Doria Ragland, an African American social worker and yoga instructor, and Thomas Markle, a white television lighting director. Her parents divorced when she was six, and she was raised by her mother. Markle has two older half-siblings, Thomas Jr. and Samantha, from her father’s first marriage.

    Markle attended Immaculate Heart High School, an all-girls Catholic school in Los Angeles. She then studied at Northwestern University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in theater and international studies.  

    Acting Career

    Markle began her acting career in 2004 with a minor role in the independent film A Lot Like Love. She went on to appear in several television shows, including CSI: NY, The Young and the Restless, and Castle. In 2011, she landed her breakout role as Rachel Zane on the USA Network series Suits. She starred on the show for seven seasons, until her departure in 2018.

    During her time on Suits, Markle also appeared in the films Get Him to the Greek, Remember Me, and Horrible Bosses. In 2016, she had a guest role on the television series Fringe.

    Relationship with Prince Harry

    Markle first met Prince Harry in July 2016, when they were introduced by a mutual friend. The pair began dating shortly thereafter, and their relationship was publicly confirmed in November 2016.

    In September 2017, it was announced that the couple was engaged. They wed on May 19, 2018, at Windsor Castle.  

    Engagement and Wedding

    On November 27, 2017, it was announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were engaged. The couple had been dating for about a year and a half at the time of their engagement.

    The engagement announcement came as a surprise to many, as it was revealed that the couple had kept their relationship largely out of the public eye.

    The couple’s wedding took place on May 19, 2018, at Windsor Castle. The ceremony was officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury and was attended by approximately 600 guests.
