    Will Ferrell was born in Irvine, California, on July 16, 1967, the son of Betty Kay (née Overman), a teacher, and Roy Lee Ferrell, Jr., a musician. His parents were both natives of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and moved to California in 1964. Ferrell has two older brothers, Patrick and Frank, and a younger sister, Virginia.

    Ferrell was raised in a Protestant household. His ancestry includes English, German, Irish, and Scottish. He has also stated that he is of part Swedish descent.

    Ferrell was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He has said that he was “extremely disappointed” when he did not receive his Eagle Scout badge upon his 18th birthday, as it is “the ultimate achievement in Scouting”.

    He attended Rancho San Joaquin Middle School and University High School in Irvine, California. He graduated from the University of Southern California in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Information.
