    Jim Carrey was born on January 17, 1962, in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, the son of Kathleen (née Oram), a homemaker, and Percy Carrey, a musician and accountant. He has three older siblings, John, Patricia, and Rita. His mother was of French, Irish, and Scottish descent and his father was of French-Canadian ancestry.

    Carrey was raised a Roman Catholic and attended Aldershot High School. When he was 10 years old, his parents divorced and Carrey moved with his mother and siblings to Scarborough, Ontario. He attended Blessed Trinity Catholic School for two years. During his time at Blessed Trinity, he developed his gift for comedy.
