    Gervonta Davis was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 7, 1994. He was raised in a tough neighborhood and was exposed to violence at an early age. When he was just nine years old, his father was murdered.

    Despite the tragedy of his father’s death, Davis did not let it derail his life. He was a gifted athlete and excelled in both football and boxing. As an amateur boxer, he won the National Golden Gloves tournament in 2012.

    Davis made his professional debut on February 22, 2013, with a first-round knockout of Desi Williams in Miami, Florida. He fought eight more times in 2013, all by knockout.

    On July 30, 2016, Davis fought José Pedraza for the IBF super featherweight title. He won the fight by seventh-round knockout to become the youngest active world champion in boxing, at 22 years old.

    On August 26, 2017, Davis defended his IBF title against Miguel Beltrán Jr. He won the fight by ninth-round knockout.

    On January 13, 2018, Davis vacated his IBF title in order to fight WBA (Super) champion Léo Santa Cruz. He lost the fight by majority decision.

    On December 28, 2019, Davis fought Yuriorkis Gamboa for the WBA (Regular) super featherweight title. He won the fight by twelfth-round knockout to become a two-weight world champion.

    Outside of the ring, Davis has had some problems with the law. In 2014, he was arrested for assault after punching a man who was trying to take a picture of him. The charges were later dropped.

    In 2016, Davis was arrested again, this time for disorderly conduct after getting into a fight outside of a nightclub. The charges were later dropped.

    In 2017, Davis was arrested for driving without a license and fleeing the scene of an accident. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to probation.
